I know you're here, and I'm certain you're aware I am. [A beat. He's trying, but trying is hard especially when he has no idea how to broach this. It hasn't gone spectacularly with Anya or Wanda in the past.]

Still, pulling it together for Erik's sake isn't something he's too sick to manage right now, so he takes a deep breath, coughing for a moment before replying.]

Of course I'm worried, she said she orchestrated her father's murder! And we've apparently got the unfortunate luck to be stuck with a group of teenagers who can't accept that we might be slightly less awful than the people they know back home. I just don't want you to get hurt.

God's honest truth. [And that is some serious sarcasm because lol the Admiral is not God. B(]

I trust you, Erik. [More than anyone, really, and it sort of scared him sometimes.] But I don't trust her. I want to help her, but as long as I'm being honest, our conversation bothered me more than I'd like to admit.

She's - disturbed, from a lifetime of being beaten down. But I remember what that's like. I remember what feeling trapped is like.

[There's a lot wrapped up in that hoarse statement. Charles knows why Erik did what he did, and he doesn't judge him or hold it against him, or think the men he'd killed didn't deserve punishment for what they'd done, even if he didn't agree with the idea of revenge or violent justice.
And he also knows how he tried to help others in the camp survive, how he'd helped Magda, and that Wanda was just an innocent kid who was just as trapped as Anya had been, and she'd been killed for it. It's hard for him to wrap his mind around someone willing and capable of doing that, because it's just so alien.]

But severing ties, now, would be a mistake. [One, he doesn't add, he doesn't mean to make again.]
